Super Bowl halftime show 2014: Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers want to entertain you

It’s time to take a look at the music you’ll hear in the back

The Super Bowl halftime show. It’s the soundtrack of bathroom breaks and filling plates. A chance for everyone in your party to gather around the TV and wonder why an aging rocker more closely resembling a leather bag than an icon is squawking the lyrics to a song from a new album you don’t care about and wont buy, before finally playing a hit while a sea of confused paid dancers do their best to show enthusiasm through in a glut of sweat-drenched sequins and apathy.

Last year’s halftime show was a departure, and it was kind of amazing. Beyonce gave a memorable performance that saw the pop icon run the gamut from A capella vocals to revisiting her past with Destiny’s Child. It was memorable, a spectacle and became the most-watched halftime show of all time.

Now it’s time for Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to follow her act.

Bruno Mars has 22 Top-100 singles and judging from Pepsi’s website they’re pretty amped about having the 28-year-old headlining their show.

His groundbreaking take on R&B reinvigorated the music world with his invaluable talent for creating songs that resonate with people all over the globe.

There is no indication which songs he will play, though it might be a safe bet to say it wont by The Lazy Song which centers on laying in bed, watching TV and masturbating.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers could surprise on Sunday, but for an entirely different reason -- with 51-year-old bassist Flea asking the good people of Twitter if they would like to see his genitalia on Super Bowl Sunday. Either the musician had a moment of clarity or he was quickly contacted by the league office, because he deleted the Tweet.

Get amped, re-heat that pizza, apply more sauce to your wings and eat quickly. It will be hard to top the 2013 show and you may well lose you appetite.
