Aqib Talib injury: Patriots CB has no structural damage in knee

Aqib Talib was knocked out of the AFC title game on a controversial play, but he escaped with no structural damage in his knee.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

New England Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib appears to have dodged a bullet. According to Nick Underhill, Talib does not have any structural damage in his knee from the hit he took in the AFC Championship Game.

Talib was knocked out of Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos after taking a big hit from Wes Welker. Welker's hit drew the ire of Bill Belichick, who called it one of the worst plays he's seen and believes it was a malicious attempt to take the Patriots' best corner out of the game, but Talib seems to be OK.

Talib signed a one-year deal with the Patriots after being traded by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He enjoyed a breakout season, emerging as one of the top cornerbacks in the league. The knee injury doesn't sound too serious, meaning that he should be healthy in plenty of time for the offseason program. If the Patriots fail to re-sign him, he will be one of the most sought-after candidates in free agency.
