Greg Schiano created tense atmosphere in Tampa Bay, Darrelle Revis says

The former All-Pro corner says it wasn’t easy playing under Schiano this season.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis opened up about the experience of playing under head coach Greg Schiano, and unsurprisingly is wasn't all positive.

The Buccaneers started out the season 0-8 before winning four of the last seven, but it was not enough to save Schiano’s job. Clearly, Revis isn’t broken up about that, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

“The atmosphere, I felt like, was real tense,” Revis said. “Guys didn’t like coming to work. That’s one of the things you have to have, a stress-free atmosphere and environment. You’re going to get everything out of everybody if it’s stress-free and let people be who they are. I just didn’t feel he did a very good job of that. It was a learning experience for him as well, and hopefully, if he ever gets another stab at it, he’ll do things differently.”

Revis said other players in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl have been telling him that Schiano’s schemes were a “joke,” per the story. Schiano interviewed with the Cleveland Browns for its vacant head coaching position, but it appears unlikely that he will be tapped to lead the team.

Revis has been one of the best corners in the game since being drafted in the first round by the New York Jets back in 2007. Since then, he has been named an All-Pro three times, a pro bowler five times and the Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.

After missing most of 2012 with a torn ACL, the Jets dealt Revis to Tampa Bay for a first round pick. Revis bounced back in a big way, making the pro bowl once again. On Pro Football Focus, Revis ranked as the top corner in the NFL this season.
