Former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent received a sentence of 10 years probation and 180 days of jail on Friday for a drunk driving incident that resulted in the death of teammate Jerry Brown.

Brent, 25, was facing as much as 20 years in jail after a guilty sentence was handed down on Wednesday for a 2012 incident in Dallas. He was driving one night in December 2012 when he lost control of his Mercedes, resulting in the death of his passenger, Brown.

Tests measured Brent’s blood alcohol content at 0.18, more than double the Texas legal limit of 0.08.

Here is other news from Friday you may have missed:

David Diehl announces retirement

After 11 seasons with the New York Giants, offensive lineman David Diehl announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday. A fifth-round pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, Diehl was a full-time starter as a rookie and missed only 12 games in his 11 seasons with the team, earning time at every offensive line position except center. Diehl's 164 career game appearances rank 12th in team history, tied with quarterback Phil Simms.

Davis facing 6-game suspension

Impending free agent tight end Fred Davis is facing a six-game suspension for a failed marijuana test, according to a report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. It's a second failed drug test for Davis, who received a four-game suspension in 2011. It appears his time with the Washington Redskins is likely done, as his production has dropped off significantly since receiving the franchise tag in 2012, resulting in his benching in 2013 in favor of Logan Paulsen.

Ray Farmer declines Dolphins GM interview

The Miami Dolphins reached out to Cleveland Browns assistant general manager Ray Farmer for a second interview for the team's vacant general manager position, but he has effectively elected to pull himself out of the running for the position by declining the opportunity, according to La Canfora. Farmer reportedly had reservations about the structure of the Dolphins organization and was uncertain about who would have control over decisions.
