Super Bowl 2014 ticket prices: Average price at all-time high

Despite the weather, tickets are still in extremely high demand for Sunday’s big game.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Super Bowl XLVIII is the first Super Bowl in a cold weather city being played in an open-air stadium.

Many had concerns this would put a damper on the general public wanting to go out and brave the elements, all while playing top dollar to see a game that likely would not even involve their favorite team. It seems that will not be an issue.

Tickets are selling like hot cakes, going for an average of $3,715.00, the highest amount of all-time, according to Forbes. The previous high was $3,040 for Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots in Indianapolis. Last year, the average ticket for the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers sold for $2,525.

Thus far, the least expensive ticket went for the bargain basement price of $2,100, located in the Upper End Zone 1 section. However, the most expensive seat that has been bought so far was $10, 557 in the Lower Prime Section. Last year, some tickets were purchased for only $500.

Forbes also reports that Stubhub has seen an increase of 33 percent in ticket sales related to the same time last year.

As far as the buyers go, 16 percent are from New York while another 16 percent are from Washington. New Jersey makes up 12 percent of the clients, and a few tickets have even been bought by people in Australia and the Yucatan.
