Matt Prater travels with Broncos, ‘will be fine’ after illness

Sick most of last week, Prater has bounced back and looks ready to go this coming Sunday.

Doug Pensinger

After battling a nasty illness for the better part of last week, it appears Denver Broncos kicker Matt Prater will be able to play in the Super Bowl, according to ESPN.com.

Prater was sent home for two consecutive days by Broncos head coach John Fox, who wanted Prater to rest but also to avoid getting other players and staff members sick. However, Prater was well enough to fly out with the team on Sunday, landing in Newark Airport.

Prater is one of the best kickers in the NFL, so losing him would have been a huge loss. The kicker was selected to the Pro Bowl this season, but of course wasn't eligible to play since his team is in the Super Bowl. Prater led the league in touchbacks this season, and also set a new NFL record by booting a 64-yard field goal against the Tennessee Titans.

This postseason, Prater is 5 of 6 on field goal attempts and perfect on all PATs.
