2014 Pro Bowl: Roger Goodell praises competitive game

After being an utter embarrassment last year, this year’s contest was actually watchable.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Last year's NFL Pro Bowl was so bad, Green Bay Packers quarterback trashed the players involved while many fans and pundits said the game should no longer be played.

This year, under a fresh format of having two legends pick players schoolyard-style, the game was not only watchable but actually competitive, with Jerry Rice’s team beating Deion Sanders’ squad 22-21.

Commissioner Roger Goodell was pleased with the way everything turned out, according to Pro Football Talk.

“I believe it was a very, very positive step,” Goodell said. “I salute the players.”

For the first time in years, the players on defense actually needed their pads and laid down some serious hits, including one that had Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon flipping head-over-heels.

Luckily, nobody was injured in the game and now all can move onto their offseason programs with good health. It appears the Pro Bowl will continue to be played and it would be a surprise if this format is abandoned anytime soon.
