Now, Avril and his team are in the Super Bowl and the former Detroit Lions star wants to stay in the great Northwest for the long haul, according to Pro Football Talk.
“I would love, I would love to,” Avril told Mike Florio. “I definitely don’t want to go into free agency again. But,you know, we’ll see how it goes, how it works out, but I would definitely love to be out here, you know it’s a great place to be, stadium is amazing, team is good, I would love to be out here.”
Avril only made 20 tackles this season but was an excellent pass-rusher, notching eight sacks. Avril has been very consistent throughout his six-year career, amassing between eight and 11 sacks in each of the last four seasons.
Avril was originally offered a three-year, $30 million deal by Detroit after the 2011 season but he turned it down hoping to get a bigger offer in free agency. The deal never came after he was franchised in 2012, leading him to the Seahawks. Still, Avril is fine with how things played out, per PFT.
“It’s not like I’m making pennies,” Avril said. “Again, I can’t complain. I’m fortunate enough to be where I’m at right now. There’s definitely no bitterness.”
