Terron Armstead injury: Saints LT has hand surgery

Armstead should be healthy and ready to participate by the time OTAs open for the Saints.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

New Orleans Saints left tackle Terron Armstead revealed on Twitter that he needed "minor" surgery on Tuesday to repair his hand, although it wasn't revealed what the injury was or when the damage to his hand was done.

Armstead, 22, started the final two regular season games for the team after taking over for Charles Brown, who was benched late in the year. The rookie struggled in his first start, allowing three sacks to Greg Hardy of the Carolina Panthers, but rebounded in Week 17 and two postseason starts.

A third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Armstead garnered attention during the NFL Combine after he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.71 seconds, the fastest ever for an offensive lineman.

The hand injury isn’t likely to withhold Armstead from participating in organized team activities (OTAs), and he should have a decent head start on securing the team’s starting left tackle role for the future.
