Super Bowl 2014: Mile High Report and Broncos fans confident heading into weekend

Broncos fans at Mile High Report are very confident about their chances in the Super Bowl this Sunday. Do they have good reason to be?

Denver Broncos blog Mile High Report asked its readers, "How confident are you, Broncos Country?" heading into the Super Bowl this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. The Broncos are only slight favorites in Vegas, but Denver fans apparently aren't expecting too much of a struggle. The results of MHR's report:

The results are still being tallied, so head over to Mile High Report if you would like to vote. Thus far, however, there are nearly as many fans with less than 50-percent confidence (13 percent) as fans who have no question the Broncos will win (12 percent).

Granted this isn’t the most scientific study ever conducted. Still, excising the two outlier categories, there are apparently 390 Broncos fans who are “a little” or “very” confident about the game compared to 59 fans who are “a little” or “very” nervous. That’s a lot of hubris!

Whether you think the Broncos will win depends greatly on how you feel Peyton Manning will perform against the NFL’s best secondary. Kyle Montgomery spoke with Seahawks coaches and players to get their thoughts on how to attack the Broncos’ passing game:

"As a defense, it's worked so far, so we're going to do what works," cornerback Richard Sherman said. "You don't change things up in the Super Bowl just because you're going against somebody different. He (Peyton Manning) won't change things up. We won't change things up."

There are three keys to disrupting Peyton Manning's record-breaking offense, according to the Seahawks players I spoke with Thursday and Wednesday. Those keys are:

  1. Pressuring Peyton Manning,
  2. Defending Denver's short crossing routes (the rub routes, the pick plays), and
  3. Creating turnovers.

Every one of them is a battle of strength vs. strength.

The entire piece is a must-read before Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off.
