Jim Caldwell apparently pulled out all the stops for his interview for the Detroit Lions' head coaching position. According to NFL.com, the current Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator charted every one of Matthew Stafford's passes this season, and pointed out to the Lions' staff how he could improve the quarterback.
Caldwell also reportedly watched tape with Stafford, and gave the quarterback pointers. Given how important Stafford’s development is to the future of the franchise, Caldwell’s presentation could help land him a promotion.
Todd Haley's job is reportedly safe with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was much maligned early this season as the team's offensive coordinator. The Steelers began the season 2-6, and reports surfaced that Haley and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger were clashing behind closed doors. The Steelers' offense improved down the stretch, however, and the team finished just out of the playoffs at 8-8 overall.
Don’t expect Bill Cowher to be roaming an NFL sideline next season. He told CBS’ “This Morning” that “I’ve never closed the door, but it’s highly unlikely any time in the near future you’ll see me coach.”
Cowher was the head coach of the Steelers for 15 years. He coached the team to two Super Bowl appearances, including a win in 2005. He has debunked coaching rumors seemingly every year since his retirement, so don't expect his latest denial to stop the same rumors from popping up next year.
