Kellen Winslow charged with synthetic marijuana possession

New York Jets tight end Kellen Winslow has been charged with possession of synthetic marijuana by East Hanover, N.J., police, according to a report from NFL.com.
Winslow was allegedly found in possession of the substance on Nov. 19, but charges were not issued until Thursday. The ninth-year tight end is currently without a contract, and it’s unclear how this arrest could affect his potential to land with a team in 2014.
The 2013 season saw Winslow start three games for the Jets, finishing with 388 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He was suspended four games for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing drugs, and this alleged incident happened just four days after the end of his suspension. This could result in another punishment from the league, this time for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
If found guilty, Winslow could serve up to five years in prison for possessing a controlled substance. The Jets have not issued an official statement.
