Giants vs. Eagles 2014 picks and predictions: Philadelphia aims to outgun New York

There will plenty on the line Sunday night when Philadelphia and New York square off in an old-school NFC East contest.

The Philadelphia Eagles appeared unstoppable at 3-0. The New York Giants looked utterly lost at 0-2. Now at Week 6, both appear much closer to each other than either may have thought a month ago, with the Giants visiting the Eagles and trailing by a single game in the NFC East. Philadelphia has played well at times but ugly at others, while the Giants are cranking up an offense given up for dead a few weeks back.

When Tom Coughlin brought offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo in from Green Bay, it was a move expected to cut down on Eli Manning’s turnovers. After throwing a league-leading 27 interceptions in 2013, Manning has tossed only five thus far. The number is still somewhat on the high end, but it is a stark improvement and one which is allowing for the Giants to average 26.6 points per game, eighth in the NFL. Over the past three games, New York has totaled 105 points, winning by an average margin of 18.

Philadelphia is 4-1, but things have not been easy. In the season opener, the Eagles trailed 17-0 to the lowly Jaguars before scoring 34 unanswered points. On a Monday night in Week 2, Philadelphia again rallied from a two-touchdown deficit to beat the Colts, becoming the first team in NFL history to start its season with consecutive wins after trailing in both games by 14-plus points. After beating Washington, the Eagles' offense was shut out in a loss to the 49ers before a close win over the struggling Rams.

Over at ESPN.com, seven of the 13 experts believe Big Blue will find a way to earn its fourth straight win, and second consecutive victory at Lincoln Financial Field. Things evened out at USA Today, with four of seven analysts taking the Eagles to fly at home. Things had a different tone at CBS Sports, with only Josh Katzowitz siding with Philadelphia out of eight picks.

Here at SB Nation, the Eagles are getting the majority of the love with five of our seven experts rolling with Chip Kelly and crew. Only Ryan Van Bibber and Matt Ufford are taking the Giants to be in a tie for first place at night’s end.
