The Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings have been playing twice a year since 1961, starting their rivalry in the tough NFC Central, dubbed affectionately the Black and Blue Division. In recent years, the two teams have not often been competitive at the same time, but with the hiring of Jim Caldwell in Detroit and rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in Minnesota, that could be changing. Neither franchise has ever won a Super Bowl, so the hunger to win remains a constant.
How to watch Lions vs. Vikings 2014: Live stream, time and TV schedule
In a classic NFC North matchup, the Vikings and Lions both try to forget lousy performances with a division win.

Bridgewater started his first NFL game in Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons, throwing for 317 yards and running for a touchdown before injuring his ankle. The injury held Bridgewater out of Minnesota's last game against the Green Bay Packers, leading to a 42-10 drubbing at Lambeau Field with Christian Ponder under center. Bridgewater is expected back against Detroit and aims to ignite a passing attack ranked 27th in the league. One issue has been 2013 first-round pick Cordarrelle Patterson, who has struggled to a slow start of 15 catches and 189 yards without a touchdown.
The Lions are 3-2 and tied atop the NFC North with the Packers, but are trying to rebound after blowing a 14-0 lead at home against the Buffalo Bills. Detroit lost in large part due to kicker Alex Henery, who was released after the game following three missed field goals. Another problem was the offensive line which surrendered six sacks and has allowed 17 this season, second-highest to the Jaguars. However, the defense is performing excellently, ranking 4th against the run and 5th against the pass.
