Washington (1-4) heads to Arizona to take on a Cardinals team (3-1) that is hoping to finally have quarterback Carson Palmer back under center. Washington put up a good fight at home Monday against the Seahawks, but still came away with a loss. The Cardinals experienced the fate of many teams last week, and were blown out by the Broncos.

The Cardinals could be reduced to their third-string quarterback Sunday, so they’ll be relying on their defense against a struggling Washington team.

Simply put, Washington is just not a very good team. There are, of course, injuries all over place and quarterback Kirk Cousins has been forced to learn quick. But the team has lost 12 of its last 13 games dating back to last season and continue to trend downward.
Sure, there are good signs for Washington. For the most part, the defense kept Seattle in check, and DeSean Jackson is still proving to be a tremendous deep threat. And as Cousins comes along in his development -- because Robert Griffin III isn't coming back anytime soon -- there should be more consistency overall from the offense.
There is a chance the Cardinals could be getting Palmer back this week, who hasn't played since Week 1. If not, they could be rolling with third-string rookie Logan Thomas, who got some playing time against Denver. Backup QB Drew Stanton is also in the cards to play, but he is recovering from a concussion and was limited in practice.
No matter who is at quarterback, Arizona could be leaning on Andre Ellington to have a strong day Sunday. He came up big against the Broncos, racking up 144 total yards and two touchdowns. Washington has a fairly middle-of-the-road defense, but it has been prone to give up plenty of points to better teams.
