The Dallas Cowboys are apparently not too concerned with facing Richard Sherman on Sunday afternoon.
Cowboys coaches say Richard Sherman is overrated
Dallas coaches reportedly think the cornerback is merely a product of the safeties behind him.
Coaches have told their players that the All-Pro cornerback is overrated, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. While they acknowledge that the Seahawks own the best defense in the league, they believe that Sherman is made to look better than he is by the play of the safeties behind him.
In fairness, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas are indeed probably the best safety duo in the league, having both drawn Pro Bowl honors a year ago. And Sherman has struggled to a degree so far this season. Quarterbacks throwing into his coverage have a 111.6 passer rating in 2014, compared to 36.2 last season, per Pro Football Focus. Still, Sherman has only allowed seven receptions on 14 targets through four games.
The last time Sherman faced the Cowboys was in Week 2 of 2012, when he allowed just two receptions for 14 yards.
Sunday could provide the perfect test for the Dallas’s allegations. Chancellor is a game-time decision, meaning we may get the opportunity to see Sherman matched up on the Cowboys’ big-play receivers without at least one of his Pro Bowl safeties behind him.
