In the early games, an Aaron Rodgers touchdown pass delivered the Packers a win in the final seconds, the Browns got a shocking blowout victory and the Bengals-Panthers tied. Dallas came away with a big win in Seattle in the afternoon, out-playing the defending champs in a 30-23 win. The Eagles wrapped Sunday with a blowout win against the Giants.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY SportsCruz was quickly diagnosed with a torn patellar tendon, according to NBC’s Michele Tafoya. The Giants later confirmed the diagnosis. He had 321 yards coming into the game, including a pair of 100-yard performances early in the season. He recorded two catches for 16 yards before suffering the injury. Although the injury may not have been obvious watching the play, it was on the field. Cruz immediately clutched at his knee with Tafoya adding it was apparent he was in extreme pain.
Cruz was taken off the field on a cart, holding his head in his hands.

Week 6 NFL scores

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY SportsThe Cowboys rolled into Seattle as underdogs, and left with a strong argument as the best team in the conference after a 30-23 win that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. The Seahawks benefited from 17 points off a blocked punt and two bad turnovers that gave them short fields. Otherwise, the Cowboys looked dominant, shutting down the Seahawks’ offense and paving the way for a record day from DeMarco Murray, who rushed for 115 yards.
In the afternoon, New England also had a renaissance. All but left for dead a week ago, the Patriots got their chance to reclaim the top spot in the AFC East when they took on the Bills on Sunday, and seized it. Tom Brady threw for 361 yards an four touchdowns against a confused secondary, spoiling a strong game by Buffalo’s front seven for a 37-22 win.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports1. Carson Palmer = solid.
Palmer played solid, mistake-free football, avoiding turnovers (the Cardinals have thrown 178 passes without an interception this season). Despite crushing injuries on defense throughout the season, the Cardinals are 4-1 and first in the NFC West. If Palmer can stay healthy, their success might continue.

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY SportsThe Cowboys played a fabulous first half in Seattle. They outgained Seahawks 234 total yards to 83, thanks to stout defense and efficient offense. Dallas went 7-for-9 on third down conversions, and gained 14 first downs to Seattle’s three. Seattle had just 17 yards rushing at half.
The turnovers successfully stymied the Cowboys on offense. Murray’s production slowed and Dallas began giving the ball back on fourth downs. The Cowboys’ defense stayed strong, however, forcing punts after the disastrous turnovers. And eventually, the Cowboys were able to reignite their offense.

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY SportsDeMarco Murray’s historic season continued Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. Murray broke the 100-yard mark with a 15-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. With that run, he joins Jim Brown as the only running back with at least 100 rushing yards in each of their first six games of the season.
Even better for the Cowboys, Murray’s run gave his team a 27-23 lead with less than four minutes to play. Murray has been a big part of Dallas’ effort in what’s usually a very hostile climate for visiting football teams. That run gave him 115 rushing yards on 29 carries and one touchdown, one crucial touchdown.

After a holding call and two unsuccessful plays, the Cowboys faced third-and-20 and needed somewhat of a miracle to keep a drive alive against the Seahawks. This counts as “somewhat of a miracle”:
Craziness on both ends: Tony Romo escaping, directing his receiver, and then throwing a ball Williams could catch. And Williams for somehow hanging on to it and getting both feet down.

The finish of Bengals-Panthers wasn’t exactly pretty: After an exciting 60 minutes of regulation culminated in a 34-34 deadlock when Graham Gano nailed a last-second field goal, the game went to OT... when it kept going... and going... and going, until it ended in a 37-37 tie.
As Deadspin explains, Fox had selected this game for “bonus coverage,” meaning those not in NFL markets would have to watch the entire game while the 4 p.m. slate of kickoffs got underway. Many people did not like this:

Tiger Woods attends Raiders game in dad jeans

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY SportsOver the years, Tiger Woods’ pro sports team loyalties have not always been clear. He grew up in Southern California and says he’s a diehard Lakers fan, but he was also an Orlando Magic season ticket holder and enthusiast of that team. It got confusing, especially when the two played in the 2009 Finals.
On the NFL side, however, Tiger has remained steadfast in his support of the Raiders, who played in Los Angeles when Tiger was a kid. Woods has stayed with the team even since they relocated to Oakland and through this particularly dark era.

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY SportsRon Rivera can be forgiven for behaving like he woke up from a fever dream after the Carolina Panthers’ 37-37 tie with the Cincinnati Bengals. It was the first time in the 20-year history of the team that it happened, and it occurred because he chose to go for a field goal on fourth-and-1 in overtime, instead of trying for the win. After the game the coach seemed completely confused by what happened.
That’s a “glass half full” way of looking at it, we suppose. No reason to treat your tie like a loss. Especially when it was absolutely 100 percent a tie.

Read Article >What we learned from the Packers’ dramatic win

Brad Barr-USA TODAY SportsDefense ruled the first half, with Jordy Nelson scoring the lone touchdown early in the first quarter on a nine-yard pass from Aaron Rodgers. But the Miami defense stiffened after that point, allowing just a field goal for the remainder of the half. The Packers defense, which has really come on in recent weeks, keyed off an early goal line stand to hold the Dolphins to just three points.
But Ryan Tannehill came out hot in the second half, scoring touchdowns on each of their first three possessions to charge out to a 24-17 lead.

The Dolphins made the fake spike famous, as Dan Marino led his team to a win over the Jets in 1994. Today, the Packers used it to take them down.
The Packers moved the ball into enemy territory trailing, 24-20, but a completion to Randall Cobb left the Packers with a running clock, 15 yards to the end zone, and under 30 seconds left in the game with no timeouts. The situation called for a spike, and Rodgers rushed up to the line. Except instead of chucking it at the ground, he held onto the ball, looked up, and delivered the ball to Davante Adams, who sprinted down to the 3-yard-line, a gain of 12:

Elsa1) Geno Smith bounces back ... and back to goat status. Just when everyone with a Twitter account was ready to write off Geno Smith, he turns in a nice effort. Maybe he’s learned more than just time zones over the last two weeks. Smith was playing a solid game and had his team closing the gap, until that interception with 23 seconds left.
3) Denver is still the best in the AFC. Until proven otherwise, at least. This wasn’t a great effort for the Broncos, but a win is a win. That puts Denver at 4-1, tied with San Diego for the division lead pending the outcome of the Chargers’ game later Sunday afternoon. Denver’s schedule has San Francisco, San Diego and New England for the next three games; we’ll know soon enough if the Broncos are the class of the AFC.
