Early in the second quarter, Joe Flacco had already thrown for five touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He began the game 13-for-17 for 207 yards to help give the Baltimore Ravens a 35-0 lead. It does not appear he'll be slowing down any time soon, unless the Ravens decide to take it easy on the hapless Bucs.
Joe Flacco on pace for monster game against the Buccaneers
Joe Flacco is on pace to break records against the Buccaneers, with five touchdown passes through the early minutes of the second quarter.
Flacco’s fourth touchdown made him and Tommy Kramer the only two quarterbacks in NFL history to throw four touchdowns in the first quarter. Only five quarterbacks have ever thrown seven touchdowns in a game, putting Flacco on track to break even more records, according to Neil Greenberg of the Washington Post.
At one point, a full half of Flacco's 10 completions had gone for scores. His longest touchdown in the first half was the fifth he had thrown, a 56-yard bomb for Steve Smith, who left his defender well behind him on the play. Smith was the fourth different player to catch a touchdown from Flacco. Michael Campanaro, Kamar Aiken and Torrey Smith (twice) have also gotten in on the action.
So far, Flacco has hit eight different players. Steve Smith has been his most productive target with 65 yards, but Torrey Smith has been Flacco’s go-to, with four receptions for 51 yards on five targets.
The 5’9 Campanaro may be winning the style competition:
