After playing without any of their top running backs for several games, the Carolina Panthers may finally see their veteran rushers return to the lineup in the coming weeks.
Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams returning soon for Panthers
The Panthers’ top two runners should return from injury soon.

Bad injury luck has hit the Carolina backfield hard this season, with Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and Mike Tolbert all missing time due to myriad calamities. The injuries have gotten so bad that for the past two weeks, the Panthers have leaned on undrafted free agent Darrin Reaves and Fozzy Whittaker.
But the backfield should revert back to normal soon. Head coach Ron Rivera believes Stewart, who was listed as questionable Sunday, should be back in the lineup this Wednesday while Williams could join him in a couple of weeks.
Prior to being sidelined, Stewart was struggling to move the ball, averaging just 3 yards per carry with only one explosive run. Williams played much better, though, running at a clip of 4.2 yards. Their return couldn't come soon enough for the Panthers, who haven't had a running back eclipse 50 rushing yards since Week 1. Quarterback Cam Newton carried the load in Week 6, rushing for a season-high 107 yards against the Bengals.
