The Dallas Cowboys can let out a sigh of relief -- at least a small one -- as starting left tackle Tyron Smith avoided the dreaded high-ankle sprain, according to CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora.
Tyron Smith injury: Cowboys LT could play vs. Giants
The star left tackle does not have a high-ankle sprain as feared.

Smith pitched a near shutout against the Seattle Seahawks defensive line last weekend, opening up huge holes for DeMarco Murray and creating clean pockets for Tony Romo. For his efforts, he won NFL Offensive Player of the Week honors, the first offensive lineman to be so honored in over a decade. The Cowboys need him this week, as they face the New York Giants and pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul. Smith apparently suffered the injury on Sunday against Seattle. He attempted to practice on Wednesday but was in too much pain and instead went in for further testing.
If Smith is not able to go, Dallas will be without each of its preferred starting tackles. Right tackle Doug Free suffered a fracture in his right foot last weekend, an injury that will keep him out multiple games. The Cowboys' backup offensive tackles are Jermey Parnell and rookie Donald Hawkins.
