When the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers meet Sunday, plenty will be on the line. Kansas City is trying to get back in the playoff race after beginning the season 2-3. On the other sideline, San Diego will be riding a five-game winning streak and trying to maintain a slim half-game lead in the AFC West over the Denver Broncos.

Kansas City looks for a big win coming off its bye against a San Diego team that might be the hottest in football.

For the Chargers, the season has been all about Philip Rivers. The fiery gunslinger is enjoying his best season through six games, tossing 15 touchdowns against two interceptions. Rivers has a bevy of receiving options at his disposal, including Keenan Allen, Malcom Floyd, Antonio Gates and Eddie Royal. Of the four, Allen has the lowest yardage total with 296. Incredibly, that he has more yards than Travis Kelce, who leads the Chiefs with 274.
One way to stop a potent passing attack is to rush the quarterback, something that Kansas City does terrifically. Only the Detroit Lions record more sacks on a per-pass attempt basis. The Chiefs employ a devastating trio in their front, featuring Justin Houston, Tamba Hali and Dontari Poe. Houston enters the game with six sacks, which ranks behind only Willie Young and Ryan Kerrigan for the most league-wide. San Diego will need stellar efforts from D.J. Fluker and King Dunlap to keep Hali and Houston at bay.
Offensively, Kansas City will rely on a solid ground attack led by Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis. The Chiefs check in fourth in the NFL in rushing yards per game with 137.6. This could be a problem for the Chargers, who are 27th allowing 4.7 yards per attempt on the season, the exact same number Kansas City averages per rush. The Chiefs will likely need to control the ball and win time of possession if they want to snap their current six-game losing streak in Qualcomm.
