Ray Rice could be reinstated this season, according to report

Rice reportedly has an “exceedingly strong case” to have his suspension dropped, but that still might not mean play time for the running back.

Ray Rice could see his indefinite NFL suspension end sooner rather than later. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the former Baltimore Ravens running back could be reinstated within the next four weeks.

La Canfora said that numerous legal experts believe Rice has an “exceedingly strong case” in his appeal against the suspension, and that he will likely win an argument that his suspension should only be six weeks, which has already passed.

Rice, 27, received an indefinite suspension after a video released by TMZ showed the running back striking his now-wife and knocking her unconscious. Per Rice’s lawyers, his truthfulness throughout the process coupled with a first-time offense which is supposed to result in a six-game suspension, according to a new NFL domestic violence policy, should result in the running back’s indefinite suspension being lifted.

But even if that happens, Rice faces an uphill battle to convince a team to sign him. As a controversial player, there would almost certainly be backlash for a team that signs Rice, and he’ll have to convince that team that his production would be worth the attention that comes with it.

Rice had a career-worst 3.1 yards per carry in 2013, as he finished with 660 yards rushing after four consecutive seasons prior with 1,000 or more rushing yards.
