UPDATE (Tues. 4:30 ET): The Bills have placed C.J. Spiller on injured reserve with a designation to return. He is eligible to practice on Dec. 3 and can be reinstated to the active roster for the Week 16 game at the Oakland Raiders.
C.J. Spiller placed on short-term IR
The Bills running back was placed on short-term injured reserve on Tuesday after suffering a broken collarbone this past Sunday.

Spiller broke his collarbone on a 53-yard run in the second quarter of Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions.
Spiller had surgery on Monday and will be on the shelf for two months. The 2010 first-round pick can opt out of his rookie contract after this season and hit the open market.
The play occurred on Spiller's first carry of the game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was visibly distraught as he was carted off the field.
The Bills also lost the second half of their running back tandem to injury on Sunday when Fred Jackson went down with a groin issue, though his diagnosis is brighter. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said the worst-case scenario is a four-week absence but that the veteran could miss as little as one game. Jackson is reportedly eying the Week 10 game against the Kansas City Chiefs (the Bills are on bye in Week 9).
That leaves backups Anthony Dixon and Bryce Brown to carry the load for at least one week.
