Tom Brady calls Peyton Manning’s record ‘incredible’

Tom Brady sent a congratulatory text message to Peyton Manning on Sunday night and spoke highly of the “incredible” record set by the Broncos QB.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have played each other 15 times and the two will forever be linked as the two best quarterbacks of their era. So when Manning broke Brett Favre's record for most career touchdown passes on Sunday night, of course Brady was asked for his reaction.

Unsurprisingly, Brady was highly complimentary of the Denver Broncos passer during a Monday interview with WEEI's Dennis & Callahan radio show:

“It’s pretty incredible,” Brady said. “It’s hard to throw touchdown passes, and he’s done it in the last few years, I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s pretty incredible. It’s a great record. It’s incredibly hard to do. He’s been very durable. He’s been obviously consistent, beyond consistent. He’s just a spectacular player.”

Manning, 38, owns a lot of passing records, and one of those records is most touchdown passes in a single season with 55. That record, which Manning set in 2013, used to be owned by Brady, who was the first ever to reach 50 touchdown passes in a season when he hit that mark in 2007.

Still, Brady has three Super Bowl rings compared to Manning's one, and Brady owns a 10-5 record in the head-to-head matchups between the two quarterbacks. While comparisons of their careers will continue and a Nov. 2 game between the Broncos and Patriots will stoke those fires, there doesn't appear to be any ill-will between the two. Brady said he sent a congratulatory text message to Manning on Sunday and added further praise:

“He’s really got great command, he’s really a field general. I think that’s probably the best description, I think that’s kind of the thing that comes to mind when you think about him. He’s got great command out there. He’s been a great player for a long time.”

Brady is just one of a chorus of football greats who congratulated Manning on Sunday. Players like Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Fran Tarkenton and John Elway also reached out to the Broncos quarterback. The Denver Post compiled a list of congratulations from former and current NFL stars.
