Texans vs. Steelers final score: 3 things we learned from Pittsburgh’s Monday night comeback

The Steelers went on a bipolar upswing this week with a 30-23 comeback win against the visiting Houston Texans. It was the Steelers’ 16th consecutive Monday night win in Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled to string together four straight quarters of football competency all season. But they at least played two and a half good ones on Monday night against the visiting Houston Texans, digging their way out of a 13-point hole in the second quarter for a 30-23 win in their third prime-time game of the season.

Dick LeBeau dialed up the blitz and rattled Ryan Fitzpatrick to keep the Steelers from getting buried before the end of the first half, and it worked. Pittsburgh scored three touchdowns inside the two-minute mark to snatch the lead. Two of those scores were the results of turnovers. Arian Foster fumbled on Houston's 3-yard line, and the Steelers left them guessing when wide receiver Antonio Brown threw a touchdown pass to Lance Moore. Brett Keisel picked off Fitzpatrick on the next series to set up a third touchdown.

It was the first time the Steelers scored more than 20 points since their Week 4 loss to the Buccaneers (yes, that really happened). Maybe Todd Haley will get a break from Snoop Dogg now. At the very least, it puts Pittsburgh above .500 and back into a horse race with the Ravens for the division lead.

1) The Steelers have most of the parts on offense. Okay, they have Le'Veon Bell and Brown, but that was enough this week, thanks in part to a smarter effort from embattled offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Ben Roethlisberger continued to do what he always does: make his throws when pressured. It helps to have a player like Bell to catch quick passes. Why the Steelers ever took Bell off the field is a mystery.

2) Houston has J.J. Watt ... and not much else. Watt clearly deserves the MVP, at least if we could give it out after seven weeks. He won't get it because there's a bias for offensive players or a demand for obscene sack numbers from defensive linemen. But for as much as he packs in his lunch pail every week, he can only do so much. Houston's most glaring problem is at quarterback; Fitzpatrick is nothing more than a backup, a middling one at best, pressed into starting duty.

3) Who are the Steelers anyway? I don't really know anymore. They seem to always be playing their games in prime-time lately, and they're usually not very fun games. They thrashed the Panthers on Sunday night in Week 3, and were embarrassed by the Ravens on Thursday night in Week 2. For the season, they're alternating wins and losses each week to a variety of opponents. Next week the Steelers host the Colts, and after that they'll play the Ravens. Pittsburgh is 4-3, trailing Baltimore by one game (the Ravens have another edge, at this point, by virtue of that Week 2 win).
