RGIII says he won’t rush ankle; A.J. Green listed as doubtful

We won’t know Griffin’s status for sure until Monday, but it sounds as if Washington may err on the side of caution. That’s the approach the Bengals are taking with Green, who looks like he’ll miss another game.

Robert Griffin III is envoking Winson Churchill quotes to emphasize that he won't rush back from his ankle injury.

“A quote that I stumbled upon during this process of being injured and being out was by Winston Churchill,” the quarterback told The Washington Times. “And it says, ‘Courage is what it takes to stand up and do something. Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.’”

A decision on whether to play the injured star on Monday night is coming down to the wire, with the team pushing back an official announcement on his status until Monday. In the meantime, head coach Jay Gruden said his team is preparing as though Colt McCoy will be the starter against the Dallas Cowboys.

Monday’s game looks to be perhaps the last shot that 2-5 Washington has at salvaging its season, hence the pressure to get RGIII back on the field. Griffin tore his ACL while trying to play through an injury in the 2012 playoffs, so the team is likely to come down on the side of caution.

A.J. Green doubtful vs. Ravens

Despite Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis stating that his star wide receiver is "looking better and better," A.J. Green has been listed as doubtful for this Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, according to Cincinnati.com.

A toe injury has kept Green sidelined for the better part of three games and relegated him to the sideline all this week in practice. Green reportedly has a variation of turf toe and likely won’t be 100 percent at any point this season. But rather than end his year early, the Bengals are hoping to get him to a point where he can play through the injury.

Getting to that point requires patience, especially after the team watched wideout Marvin Jones aggravate multiple lower-body injuries while trying to practice through them over the summer. Jones was placed on season-ending IR last week.

Owen Daniels out at least one week

Ravens tight end Owen Daniels will miss this Sunday’s first-place showdown with Cincinnati after undergoing a clean-up procedure on his left knee, according to ESPN.

Daniels, who hadn’t practiced at all this week, could return as early as next week.

“After that, he has a chance to come back,” head coach John Harbaugh said. “So, it’ll be week to week after that, and it won’t be many weeks at all. It could actually be next week. That’s an optimistic approach, but it could happen.”

Daniels is the Ravens’ second-leading receiver and would have been a beneficial outlet option this Sunday against an aggressive Bengals defense.

Shane Vereen questionable with illness

The New England Patriots could be down another running back this Sunday against the Chicago Bears. With Stevan Ridley already on IR, Shane Vereen has been listed as questionable with an illness.

There have been no details on what Vereen has come down with or how sick he is, but it was enough to keep him out of practice on Friday.

If Vereen can't go, the Pats will turn to a combination of Brandon Bolden, Jonas Gray and James White to move the ball against a Bears defense that has been much improved against the run this season.
