The Cleveland Browns have quietly become a playoff contender in the AFC, but they took a crushing step back last week in a 24-6 defeat to the previously winless Jacksonville Jaguars. Cleveland dropped to 3-3, but gets a chance to redeem itself with a home date against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, the only remaining team without a win.

Cleveland is coming off an embarrassing defeat and wants desperately to avoid another loss against a winless team.

Part of the problem last Sunday was Brian Hoyer, who completed just 16 of 41 passes for 215 yards. This led head coach Mike Pettine to admit that he thought of benching the veteran in favor of Johnny Manziel. Hoyer remains the starter this weekend, but could see a quick hook if things begin to go sideways. The Browns find themselves outside of the AFC playoff picture at this point, but could make a move with favorable results against Oakland and Tampa Bay over the next two weeks.
For the Raiders, this season is about the future. Oakland is already on its second head coach of the season with Tony Sparano replacing Dennis Allen after an 0-4 start. Sparano is 0-2 with the Raiders, but has turned in close defeats against the San Diego Chargers and Arizona Cardinals. Rookie quarterback Derek Carr has been a legitimate bright spot for Oakland, throwing for 1,189 yards and eight touchdowns against five interceptions thus far. Carr has not received much help from the worst rushing attack in football, averaging just 69.3 yards per game.
