Browns’ Jordan Cameron suffers concussion, ruled out of Raiders game

The Browns tight end heads to the locker room after taking an ugly shot to the head.

Ron Schwane-USA TODAY Sports

Jordan Cameron was taken to the locker room for a concussion evaluation in the middle of the second quarter of the Browns' Week 8 matchup against the Raiders.

UPDATE: The Browns confirmed early in the third quarter that Cameron did suffer a concussion and was done for the day.

Cameron went over the middle and leapt to extend his body to haul in a 21-yard reception from Brian Hoyer. Oakland cornerback Brandian Ross came from Cameron's right side and lowered his shoulder right as the Browns tight end was falling to the ground, making direct contact with his helmet. Ross was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play.

Cameron stayed down for an extended period of time, waving off a teammate who came over to try to help him up off the ground. He sat up surrounded by Cleveland medical staff and was then taken to the locker room for the concussion tests.

With Josh Gordon still suspended, Cameron is probably the top pass-catching option for Hoyer and the Browns. He made the Pro Bowl last year following an 80-catch, seven-touchdown season. But he's been limited throughout the first half of this season, held back by a shoulder injury that has limited him in most games or kept him out altogether. He had become healthier in recent weeks, and broke out for his best game of the season against the Steelers just two weeks ago. In that game, he caught his first and only touchdown of the season and was the leading receiver, with Hoyer hitting him for several big plays in that blowout win.
