Giovani Bernard, Jordan Cameron top lengthy NFL injury report for Week 8

Sunday’s NFL action featured a number of key injuries affecting star players on both sides of the ball. Here is SB Nation Medical Expert Dr. Ali Mohamadi’s Monday morning injury update from the week so far.

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Bengals running back Giovani Bernard sat out the final eight minutes of Cincinnati's thrilling victory over Baltimore on Sunday after suffering a hip injury. The team has not made any statements regarding the precise diagnosis or timetable for a recovery, although there did not seem to be significant concern in the Bengals' locker room after the game. If Bernard is forced to miss next week's contest with Jacksonville, Jeremy Hill would get the start in the backfield.

Jordan Cameron, Cleveland Browns (concussion)

Cameron left in the second quarter of the Browns' win over Oakland after a helmet-to-helmet collision with Raiders safety Brandian Ross and was later diagnosed with a concussion. The Cleveland TE was down on the field for approximately one minute after the hit before heading straight to the locker room once he made it to his feet. Cameron will have to pass neurological testing in the coming days in order to return for Cleveland's Week 9 matchup with Tampa Bay.

Nick Fairley, Detroit Lions (knee)

The Lions defensive tackle left in the second quarter of Sunday's comeback win over Atlanta with a knee injury and was helped off the field, with preliminary reports indicating the damage may be serious. Fairley suffered the injury in a collision with teammate Ndamukong Suh, with his knee twisting awkwardly while falling to the ground. If indeed Fairley misses significant time, rookie Caraun Reid will see time next to Suh on the Detroit defensive line.

Brian Quick, St. Louis Rams (arm)

Quick, who is having a career season for the Rams, left after suffering an arm injury during his only catch of the game against Kansas City and exited the stadium in a sling. Quick himself didn't know the extent of the injury following the game, and he will undergo further tests to determine his prognosis for recovery. Speedsters Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey are likely to see more targets next week against San Francisco if Quick is unable to play.

Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (ankle)

The Bucs' RB left in the third quarter of the team's loss to Minnesota on Sunday with an ankle injury, adding to Tampa Bay's woes this season. Martin will undergo additional testing, with the location of the injury playing an important role in determining the speed of recovery: a high ankle sprain could mean backup Bobby Rainey will see significant time in the starter's role, starting with next week's game against Cleveland.

Patrick Peterson, Arizona Cardinals (concussion)

Peterson left in the second quarter Arizona's win over Philadelphia with a concussion after colliding viciously with Eagles' receiver Jeremy Maclin. Peterson was slow to rise and leave the playing field, and testing by the Cardinals' medical staff confirmed the diagnosis of a concussion. The star corner's status will be a topic of great interest this week in particular, as Arizona prepares for a showdown with the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9.
