Colt McCoy remains starter, Josh Gordon nearly traded in 2013

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns debated trading wide receiver Josh Gordon to the San Francisco 49ers for a couple picks at last year’s deadline, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The third-year player was a bright spot in an otherwise dismal season for the Browns last year, leading the NFL in receiving yards (1,646) despite missing two games.

Gordon has yet to play in a game this season after receiving a 10-game suspension under the league’s substance abuse drug policy. He was originally banned for the entire season, but had his discipline reduced after the NFL made changes to its drug policy in September.

Gordon is eligible to return in Week 12 against the Atlanta Falcons and has the potential to be a game-changer for the Browns, who are 4-3 this season and just a half-game back of the Pittsburgh Steelers in a very competitive AFC North division race.

DeAngelo is back

The Carolina Panthers got some good news on the injury front Tuesday when head coach Ron Rivera announced that running back DeAngelo Williams will start in Thursday night's game against the New Orleans Saints. Williams hasn't played since spraining his ankle in a Sept. 28 loss at Baltimore, and before that had missed two games with a hamstring injury.

Despite playing in just two games this season, Williams is the team's third-leading rusher with 106 yards on 25 carries. He will share the backfield with Jonathan Stewart, who rushed for 156 yards in the last two games after missing three contests with a knee injury.

McCoy remains starter

Washington head coach Jay Gruden said Tuesday that quarterback Colt McCoy will continue to start under center for the foreseeable future until Robert Griffin III is 100 percent healthy. Griffin has missed the last six games with a dislocated ankle. He did return to practice last week and was a late scratch prior to Monday night's win over the Dallas Cowboys.

McCoy has been a nice surprise for Washington since replacing Kirk Cousins at halftime two weeks ago, leading the team to two wins in two games. He has connected on 36 of 42 passes (86 percent) for an average of 10.2 yards per pass this year, becoming the first player in NFL history to complete 80 percent of his passes and average 10 yards per pass over his first two games with a team (min. 25 att.), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Jimmy Graham limited

New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham was limited in practice on Tuesday, but is expected to play Thursday against the Carolina Panthers. Graham suffered a shoulder injury in Week 5 but did not miss any games, returning to the field two weeks ago after the Saints' bye.

He was used mostly as a decoy in limited snaps during the Week 7 loss at Detroit, and followed that up with a heavier workload last Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers, catching five passes for 59 yards. He is still not 100 percent, but even a reduced Graham should provide a nice boost to the Saints offense for Thursday's showdown with the Panthers.

Rams release Keenum

The St. Louis Rams released quarterback Case Keenum on Tuesday to make room on the roster for safety Mark Barron, who was acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just before the deadline.

Keenum had yet to appear in a game this season for the Rams. The undrafted second-year player lost all eight games he started for the Texans last season, completing 54.2 percent of his passes for 1,760 yards with nine touchdowns and six interceptions.
