Tony Romo’s status for Sunday in doubt
The Cowboys could be without Tony Romo after he sustained a back injury on Monday night.
Romo had a CT scan on Tuesday to check the extent of the injury, but the Cowboys have been quiet about the results. It is unclear what exactly was found, making some believe the injury is worse than the original diagnosis of a contusion. However, no decisions have been made regarding whether Romo will be under center against Arizona at AT&T Stadium.
Romo was unwilling to discuss the extent of his injury, per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News:
"I don’t want to get into specifics about what it is," said Romo, who did divulge the injury is not to a disk or related to his previous two back surgeries. "It will be something you’ll look at each day, figure out a way to manage it and go from there.
"It has nothing to do with back surgery or anything like that. It could have happened years ago and it would have been the same thing. It’s part of playing football."
Romo had two offseason surgeries on his back but was declared healthy before the season began. If Romo misses time, he would be replaced by backup Brandon Weeden, who the Cowboys signed as a free agent this offseason.
Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones stated that Romo could likely play Sunday, provided his pain tolerance is high enough. Jones continued to say his quarterback would be sore and stiff throughout the week, but maintained his potential availability.
Losing Romo for any period of time would be crippling to a 6-2 Cowboys team that leads the NFC East by a half-game over the Philadelphia Eagles. Through eight games, Romo has thrown for 1,998 yards and 15 touchdowns against six interceptions.
