The Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys are each 3-1 heading into their Lone Star State showdown this Sunday, but with neither team having beaten anybody of real consequence, how much should we buy into their impressive starts?

Neither of these teams have beaten an opponent who currently has a winning record -- that will change after Sunday.

The Texans have yet to play a playoff team from a season ago -- they've beaten Washington, the Raiders and the Bills and lost to the Giants. Two of the Cowboys' wins have come against the lowly Titans and Rams, and their third is against a 1-3 Saints team in the throes of an underwhelming start. Combined, the overall record of Houston and Dallas's vanquished foes is 6-17.
But you play who they put in front of you, and credit both teams for taking care of business thus far.
In Dallas, the primary story is the defense. While nowhere near the league's top units (25th in total yards allowed), this is a group that has performed significantly better than expected. Left for dead after an already unimpressive roster was wracked with injuries and suspensions, they limited the high-octane Saints offense to just 17 points last week. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick's return from suspension should boost the secondary, which faces a quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick who has a 5:5 touchdown-to-interception mark and has yet to throw for over 300 yards this season.
Tony Romo and the Dallas offense will have to contend with J.J. Watt, who was just named the AFC's defensive player of the month after a monster September. He scored two touchdowns -- one an offensive reception and the other a pick-six -- on top of racking up 15 tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss and the interception.
