NFL news roundup: Mike Holmgren not expecting to be named next Raiders coach

In the wake of the Oakland Raiders firing head coach Dennis Allen, former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren saw his name floating around as a possible replacement. While the 66-year-old hasn't coached since 2008, his ties to Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie and to the Bay Area added a shred of credibility to the reports.
Still, Holmgren says he’s “probably not” returning to lead the Raiders next season, according to Josh Katzowitz of CBS Sports. The former Super Bowl-winning coach seems at peace with his NFL career, noting that he’s now free to see his grandchildren play soccer and enjoy his free time. Given how messy the situation is in Oakland, he can hardly be blamed for taking a pass.
Fans arrested, more injured as result of fight at Levi’s Stadium
Stadium brawls are an unfortunate but not uncommon sight at sporting events. Such was the case during Sunday night's Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers game, where a fight broke out in a Levi's Stadium bathroom, the video of which ABC 7 News has provided here.
For those wisely unwilling to view the video, a man wearing a Frank Gore jersey strikes another man in the head multiple times, resulting in the latter landing on the floor motionless. The same aggressor then attacks another man in a stall, also knocking him to the floor. Police have arrested two men for felony assault, the second reported assault incident since the stadium opened earlier this year.
Adrian Peterson accused of rape, sham charity
The hits keep coming for disgraced superstar running back Adrian Peterson. In an explosive Minneapolis Star-Tribune report, details surfaced about a rape allegation, infidelity to wife Ashley Brown and running a sham charity. In a 38-page police report uncovered by the paper, Peterson and two relatives were said to have spent a night drinking, arguing and engaging in sexual activities with four women in “various pairs.” The same report also claims the credit card for the hotel room used by the group was registered to Peterson’s All Day, Inc., the running back’s charitable foundation.
If the Star-Tribune story turns out to be true, it'll become even more difficult for the Minnesota Vikings to retain the former MVP past this season. The fallout from their earlier handling of Peterson's child abuse scandal drew the ire of Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton as well as multiple team sponsors. The Vikings will likely do anything to avoid entering that maelstrom again.
Giants release Trindon Holliday from IR
Diminutive but explosive return specialist Trindon Holliday spent the first three years of his NFL career between the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans, amassing 2,079 total return yards and four touchdowns over that span. Hoping to improve their own special teams, the New York Giants signed Holliday in the offseason to work primarily on punt return. However, a debilitating hamstring injury suffered early in training camp forced the team to place him on injured reserve.
With the healthy return of receiver/returner Odell Beckham Jr., the Giants no longer have a need for Holliday, whom they released from the IR Monday. The move allows Holliday, assuming he’s now healthy, to sign with any team immediately. Meanwhile, New York may have saved some cap space via an injury settlement.
