Percy Harvin ‘couldn’t believe’ his 3 touchdowns were called back

Seattle’s speedy weapon appeared to have a huge night, until each score was brought back due to penalty.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin scored three touchdowns against the Washington football team on Monday Night Football. All three were called back due to penalty, including two on consecutive plays.

Harvin's scores were twice wiped away by guard James Carpenter, who took a holding penalty in the first half to cancel out a Harvin touchdown run before being called for a personal foul to negate a 41-touchdown reception. The other touchdown was taken away because of a false start on Harvin himself.

Harvin was understandably frustrated after the game despite the victory, stating he could not believe his misfortune, per Conor Orr of NFL.com:

“I couldn’t believe it,” Harvin told reporters. “Everybody on the sideline was saying they’ve never seen that happen. We just had so many penalties tonight for whatever reason. We have to clean that up.”

To Harvin’s credit, the speed demon took the bad luck in stride without going after any teammate specifically. All told, the Seahawks were flagged 13 times for 90 yards:

“The first one, I was cool, I was like, ‘OK.’ And when the second one happened, I was like, ‘Wow.’ And then when the third one happened, I just flipped my hands down, I couldn’t believe it,” Harvin told reporters. “But at the same time, penalties are part of football. We would definitely like to have them back. Today, the penalties kind of got the best of us.”

Seattle was the most penalized team in football last season but overcame that to win its first Super Bowl. The last team to win a Super Bowl despite leading the NFL in penalties was the 1974 Pittsburgh Steelers.
