Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will be on the sidelines for at least another week, as his grievance hearing with the NFL will occur by Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the latest, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Arbitrator Shyam Das will conduct the hearing and then have five days to issue a ruling, meaning the earliest he could be reinstated would be for Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers.

The NFLPA filed the expedited, non-injury grievance with the NFL on Monday to reinstate Peterson, who has missed the last eight games following his indictment on child-abuse charges on Sept. 12. The players association said in its statement that the move was made based on “explicit language in a signed agreement” from Sept. 18, when Peterson was placed on the special commissioner’s exempt list.
Peterson pleaded no contest on Nov. 4 to a lesser charge of misdemeanor reckless assault, meaning that he is now freed from the court system. The union contends that because his legal issues have been resolved, Peterson should be immediately reinstated by the league. The NFL countered that Peterson should remain on the exempt list while the league reviews his case under the personal conduct policy.
Mebane placed on IR
Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Brandon Mebane was placed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday after suffering a torn hamstring in Sunday's win over the New York Giants. Mebane was a key cog in the Seahawks defense, with one sack and 20 tackles as one of the team's best run-stuffers up front.
His combination of power, speed and quickness in the trenches will be difficult to replace for the Seahawks, who lead the league in rush defense this season. In his place, the Seahawks will likely rotate a combination of Jordan Hill, Kevin Williams, Tony McDaniel, and Demarcus Dobbs at the nose tackle spot. The team also worked out DT Michael Brooks on Tuesday, per reports.
Bears waive Santonio Holmes
The Chicago Bears waived wide receiver Santonio Holmes on Tuesday, three months after signing the veteran wideout as a free agent in August. The 30-year-old Holmes saw time as a punt returner and receiver in Chicago, but had limited success in both roles. He averaged just 5.6 yards on nine returns and caught eight passes for 67 yards in nine games this season.
The former Super Bowl MVP spent his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, before being traded to the New York Jets prior to the 2010 campaign. He was released by the Jets in March after four disappointing years with the team, and then picked up by the Bears later in the summer.
Cowboys activate DT Brent
The Dallas Cowboys officially activated defensive lineman Josh Brent from the reserve/suspended list, the first time he has been on an active roster since 2012.
Brent was suspended from the league two years ago after being convicted of intoxication manslaughter related to a car accident that killed teammate Jerry Brown in December 2012. Brent then announced his retirement from the NFL in July 2013, and spent four and a half months in jail. He was conditionally reinstated by the league in September, and per that agreement was eligible to return to play in Week 11. The Cowboys have a bye this week and face the New York Giants on Nov. 23 at MetLife Stadium.
