Ohio church celebrates the Browns’ 1st place AFC North standing

The Browns fortunes have turned at the moment, and everyone in Northeast Ohio, including the Atwater Congregational Church, is celebrating the rare mid-November spot atop the AFC North.

That the Browns are in first place after 10 weeks in an NFL season may be a more surprising development than the return of LeBron James. Everyone in Northeast Ohio is a little excited, including the local churches.

The Browns had sole possession of first in early September back in 2002, but other than that fleeting moment, it’s been sadness and despair since the team returned in 1999. So these marquees and signs have mostly been used to make fun of the Browns since the team returned, like this one from the start of the Mangini era in 2009:
