Titans tight end Chase Coffman fined $30K for sideline hit on Ravens coach

The Titans tight end delivered what was interpreted as a cheap shot against a Ravens assistant last week.

Tennessee Titans tight end Chase Coffman has been fined $30,000 for running over a Baltimore Ravens assistant coach on the sideline last week, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports.

Video released on Sunday shows the blow Coffman delivered after a Zach Mettenberger interception during the Ravens' 21-7 Week 10 win. Instead of pursuing the intercepting defender, Coffman ran into the sideline area and collided with an unnamed Baltimore assistant, knocking him to the ground.

Glazer reported Titans coach Ken Whisenshunt called John Harbaugh after the game to tell him the blow was not intentional. The Ravens reportedly didn’t believe that and “were furious” about the play.

Coffman, a backup, was pressed into action by the second-quarter concussion of Delanie Walker.

As a point of reference to the $30,000 fine, consider that the New York Jets were fined $100,000 in 2010 when assistant coach Sal Alosi tripped Miami Dolphins gunner Nolan Carroll during a punt play.

Here’s the hit in question:
