Colts TE Dwayne Allen injures ankle, ruled out vs. Patriots

Dwayne Allen suffered an ankle injury during the first half of Indianapolis’ game against the New England Patriots.

Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen was injured during the first half of Indianapolis' Sunday Night Football matchup against the New England Patriots. He went down during the second quarter and was eventually carted into the locker room.

Allen was going to be a necessary target for quarterback Andrew Luck in a matchup of AFC division leaders. But he'd been held without a catch in the half and was replaced by Coby Fleener as an every-down tight end.

Allen has become one of Luck’s go-to pass catchers, especially working in the middle of the field. As SB Nation’s Danny Kelly highlighted earlier in the week, Allen -- who has struggled to stay healthy in his short career -- had made a huge impact on the Colts offense this season. Whether it was run-blocking or beating linebackers in coverage, Allen had been a tough matchup. With Indianapolis now playing catch-up throughout the second half, his loss will be significant.
