Robert Griffin III did not play well against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He threw for just 201 yards, tossed two picks (with one touchdown) and was sacked six times. But he's clearly resisting the growing notion in DC that he's to blame for yet another disappointing season, a notion made clear by chants of "We want Colt" from the stands Sunday.
RG3 says ‘it takes 11 men’ after loss to Buccaneers
Robert Griffin III isn’t necessarily throwing his teammates under the bus, but he wants you to know all this losing isn’t just his fault.
In the aftermath of Washington’s ugly 27-7 loss, RGIII was asked what the difference is between the current team and the one that made a surprise run to the playoffs two years ago in his rookie season. Here’s his reply, according to Troy Machir of Sporting News:
We were playing good team ball. It takes 11 men. It doesn't take one guy, and that's proven. If you want to look at the good teams in this league and the great quarterbacks, the Peytons and the Aaron Rodgers, those guys don't play well if their guys don't play well. They don't. We need everybody. I need every one of those guys in that locker room, and I know they're looking at me saying the same thing.
Before you go running off yelling about RGIII throwing his teammates under the bus, at least make note of that final sentence, which seems to put the onus at least partially on himself. ESPN and NBC, as would be expected, just ran this portion of the quote:
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson's Instagram post, on the other hand, is a little more straightforward.
