Washington is melting down after a 27-7 loss to the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ex-player Brian Mitchell goes on tirade following Washington’s loss
Things are getting ugly in the nation’s capital.
NBC Sports's Rodney Harrison said he'd "seen enough" of Robert Griffin III, who tossed two picks and has done little to improve the team since returning from injury.
“I don’t think he fits in the system,” Harrison said. “I think you have to get rid of him.”
RGIII himself, who was subjected to chants from the stands of “we want Colt” as things went south on Sunday, seemingly pushed the blame to his teammates in the postgame presser, pointing out that even the league’s best quarterbacks “don’t play well if their guys don’t play well.”
Former Washington player Fred Smoot had this to say:
But by far the most entertaining and prolific outburst came from former Washington running back and current CSN analyst Brian Mitchell, who channeled his inner Charles Barkley during an on-air tirade after the game:
“Embarrassing. This is atrocious, it’s despicable, it’s pathetic, it’s asinine,” Mitchell fumed.
“This team has sucked over the last few years, and as a former player I’m embarrassed to watch this junk over and over again.”
Mitchell had to catch himself from going into a full-fledged cussing rant.
“I come on this air and I have to try to be professional. I wish the FCC would tell me today, ‘Say what the hell you want, Brian,’ and I will call out names and tell them exactly how I feel.”
