Week 11 featured some major changes in the balance of power in the NFL. Specifically, the NFC saw several teams take large leaps and drops in the power rankings.
NFL power rankings 2014, Week 12: Packers launch into top 3
Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals retain the top spot.
After Green Bay dominated Philadelphia 53-20 in its second consecutive 50-plus point outburst, the Packers look like the most dangerous team in the NFC North and perhaps as difficult a draw as any team in the league. Aaron Rodgers continued to build on his MVP-caliber season, effortlessly throwing for 341 yards and three touchdowns against the Eagles' above-average defense. Jordy Nelson had a typical day at the office, catching four passes for 109 yards and a score. Randall Cobb and Eddie Lacy joined in the fun too, each posting more than 100 total yards. What stuck out more was the impressive play of Dom Capers' defense, a unit that has been maligned for much of the season. The Packers forced turnovers and applied near constant pressure on Mark Sanchez all game. Green Bay remains undefeated at Lambeau Field and has blown out teams in five of its seven wins this season.
Elsewhere in the NFC, the 9-1 Arizona Cardinals produced another signature win, holding the NFC North-leading Lions to only six points. Todd Bowles' defense steamrolled Detroit's offensive line with a multitude of blitzes, sacking Matthew Stafford four times while pressuring him 21 times in total. Linebacker Alex Okafor had a huge day, producing two sacks in key situations. Rookie Deone Bucannon also got in on the fun, leading the team with eight tackles. While Arizona's offense still must answer questions about Drew Stanton's ability to produce in Carson Palmer's stead, this defense will keep the Cardinals in every game.
Over in the AFC, the New England Patriots continue to make their early-season critics look silly via another lopsided win over a title contender. The Indianapolis Colts and MVP candidate Andrew Luck mustered only 20 points Sunday night while previously unknown running back Jonas Gray burst onto the scene with 199 yards and a staggering four touchdowns. On one such Gray score, All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski bounced safety Sergio Brown completely out of the field of play and into a cameraman just for laughs. He celebrated his block and the accompanying penalty with a dance.
