Washington has struggled mightily this year while floundering to a 3-7 record. Quarterback Robert Griffin III has received a brunt of criticism lately with his play on the field and his words off it. He spoke to the media Wednesday and tried to take a different approach.
RG3 has ‘extreme confidence’ Washington will play better
Robert Griffin III spoke to the media Wednesday following a minor war of words with head coach Jay Gruden.
After RGIII called out his teammates following Sunday's 27-7 loss to the 2-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach Jay Gruden said Griffin "needs to worry about himself." Needless to say, it's become evident that the Washington players and coaches aren't exactly seeing eye-to-eye on everything they should be.
Neither RGIII nor the rest of the Washington offense has played well, and they’ve only managed 17.6 points per game over their past seven games. On Wednesday, Griffin addressed the minor spat with Gruden while speaking with the media, saying that it wasn’t a big deal and it’s been addressed internally.
“It is what it is. You get what you ask for. Jay wants me to focus on San Francisco, and I’m focused on San Francisco.”
When asked about his team’s struggles, RGIII said he believes his team will stay united.
“I have extreme confidence that’s going to happen. That’s our only focus. We’re not going to act like a 3-7 football team. We’re going to push forward and push for the future.”
Throughout the press conference, Griffin continued to echo the “focus on San Francisco” line to at least try to give the impression Washington is focused on its next opponent and not any internal issues the team may have.
