Tony Romo said Sunday that he will travel with the Dallas Cowboys to London, and will prepare as if he will play against the Jacksonville Jaguars next week, according to the Dallas-Fort Worth CBS affiliate. Romo sat out Sunday after suffering a back injury in Week 8.
Tony Romo says he will travel with Cowboys to London
Tony Romo is expected to travel with the Cowboys to London, but whether he will play is still uncertain.
The Cowboys struggled without Romo, losing to the Arizona Cardinals behind a bad performance from backup quarterback Brandon Weeden. The Cleveland castoff went 18-for-33 passing for 183 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Cowboys relinquished first place in the NFC East, with the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Houston Texans to improve to 6-2.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones could not declare definitively whether he expects Romo to start next week, but he did say, “we certainly wouldn’t put him on that plane and take him to London and fly over and fly back if we weren’t planning on him playing,” per David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.
Jones even offered up his wife’s first-class seat on the flight to Romo, bumping her to coach. “Gene will sit up in the bulkhead. Romo will lounge on the way over,” he supposedly joked.
Whether or not Jones was serious, comfort is a concern for Romo, who suffered the injury on Monday night against Washington. He went down hard on a sack, but returned late after being looked at by trainers. His return may have been urged on by Jones. What initially appeared to be a bruise was later diagnosed as two fractures of the transverse process, which protects vertebrae in the back.
