The St. Louis Rams have faced a lot of adversity this year, but they haven't let that break their spirit. After losing starting quarterback Sam Bradford to a torn ACL during the preseason, the Rams have gone from Shaun Hill to Austin Davis and back to Hill at quarterback.
Rams vs. Chargers 2014 picks and predictions: St. Louis looks to play spoiler in playoff picture
The Rams will try to play spoiler once again when they visit the Chargers, who are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Hill began the year as the starter, but was knocked out of a Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after injuring his thigh. Davis went on to start the Rams' next eight games, going 3-5. After a Week 10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Davis was benched in favor of Hill while St. Louis prepared to host the mighty Denver Broncos.
The Rams made Denver look pedestrian, stifling the Broncos in a 22-7 upset win. That improved the Rams’ record to 4-6 to keep their slim postseason hopes alive. St. Louis would almost have to win out to make it to the playoffs, but momentum is on their side.
The San Diego Chargers are also trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. Sitting at 6-4, San Diego is just one game behind the 7-4 Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers for the last wild card spot in the AFC. It can ill afford to lose home games to teams like the Rams.
So, what do the experts think?
The CBS sports panel mostly went with the Chargers, with six of eight taking San Diego. Senior NFL columnist Pete Prisco believes this will be a close game, picking the Chargers to win, 21-14:
The Rams have taken big steps forward on defense, impressing last week in shutting down Peyton Manning and the Broncos. The Chargers looked so-so against Oakland last week, coming off a bye, but get it going here. Philip Rivers gets back on track.
The SB Nation staff couldn't agree on one team. Five of eight picked the Chargers:
