The Chicago Bears are 5-7 and going to miss out on the playoffs for the second straight season under head coach Marc Trestman. Trestman, who was brought in under the notion that he is an elite offensive coach, has failed to produce any such juggernaut despite ample talent.
Marc Trestman accepts blame for Bears’ loss to Lions
The Bears head coach is running out of things to say as the losses continue to pile up in the Windy City.
After another embarrassing defeat, this time a 34-17 thrashing on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions, Trestman took to being introspective, per the team's official website. The embattled coach has been under fire recently for the team's pathetic display on the field, allowing over 50 points in consecutive games against the Patriots and Packers before barely beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Trestman took responsibility for the loss after the game, saying accountability and blame start with him. Per the team’s official site:
“We just didn’t do enough,” Trestman said. “It starts with me. I’m looking inside and accepting accountability for this loss. We just couldn’t get it done and didn’t have enough ammunition to stop them or continue drives. We couldn’t overcome the adversity that we had over the course of the game, and matching score-for-score, we couldn’t do that.”
Chicago has struggled all season, ranking 25th in rushing yards per game with 93.2. Even with Brandon Marshall, Jay Cutler, Alshon Jeffery and Matt Forte, the offense only scores 21.1 points, ranking 21st in the NFL. Perhaps more concerning is the complete lack of a defense, which checks in 30th against the pass and last in points allowed per game at 28.1.
