LeGarrette Blount says Terrell Suggs ‘known to be a dirty player’

Blount didn’t take kindly to an alleged cheap shot during the Ravens-Steelers game.

If you ask Pittsburgh Steelers running back LeGarrette Blount, the controversial hit he took from Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs on Sunday night was a dirty play by a dirty player.

“I don’t know what [Suggs] was doing,” Blount said after the game via The Baltimore Sun. “I don’t know what he was thinking. He’s known to be a dirty player. As long as he does that he’s going to continue to have people come after him and do whatever we did to get in his head.”

Suggs sparked controversy when he took a shot at Blount’s legs while the running back was wrapped up and being pushed backward by other Ravens defenders. Blount had been stood up and his forward progress stopped when Suggs came crashing in from behind.

The hit drew an unnecessary roughness penalty, a chorus of boos from the Pittsburgh crowd and incited a shoving match between the two teams.

“He was running, he was still up and he was moving the pile,” Suggs said. “I assessed the play, and that was the only way I could get him down without him gaining more yards. I wasn’t trying to get him hurt. I was just trying to get the big guy down.”

Blount, who was uninjured on the play, obviously disagrees. It’s worth noting that his own behavior on the football field hasn’t always been stellar.
