Ryan Mallett is ready for his turn to try to lead the Houston Texans' offense, or at least that's what he said in a tweet that was quickly deleted. After Ryan Fitzpatrick struggled to find success against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, Mallett took to Twitter to tell the world he's waiting for his opportunity to take over for Fitzpatrick.
Ryan Mallett is ready for chance to take over for inconsistent Ryan Fitzpatrick
Ryan Mallett tweeted that he’s ready to “seize the opportunity” to lead the Texans’ offense, but deleted the tweet shortly thereafter.

“I’m staying focused for when the time comes...seize the opportunity #justwaiting,” Mallett wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
Mallett attempted to clarify his feelings Monday, tweeting, “I’m not calling to be the starter. Frustrations of losing. I play my role. I am a team player first. Always.”
It’s still possible he’ll get the chance to start, considering the Texans have lost four of their last five games and enter a Week 10 bye with a 4-5 record after starting 3-1. With two weeks before the team’s next game, first-year head coach Bill O’Brien said that the team will evaluate every position, including quarterback, and try to find a way to “spark” the offense.
I think we have to evaluate everything,” said O’Brien, when asked if he’ll make a QB change. “I don’t think you can always - and I’ve said this along - I don’t think you can look at one position and put all the blame on that.
“I think we have to look at, as far as what we’re doing offensively, we have to look at ... who’s playing what, what positions they’re playing, how we’re getting the ball, how we’re playing at every position, including quarterback - we have to look at all of that.”
Eagles vs. Texans
Through nine weeks, the Texans rank 28th in the NFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns, although the team is fifth in the NFL at running the ball. That may take a hit though, as Arian Foster suffered a groin injury in Week 9 that ended his day and could keep him out of the lineup for an extended period of time, forcing Houston to rely on rookie Alfred Blue to fill the void.
In nine starts, Fitzpatrick has completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,960 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. A lack of consistency has been an issue for the quarterback, however, and some fans want the team to give Mallett a chance to get the passing game going in a positive direction.
The Texans acquired Mallett in a trade with the New England Patriots in August in exchange for a late-round draft pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
