Broncos vs. Chiefs 2014 picks and predictions: Denver expected to win on the road

The Broncos haven’t been dominant on the road, but they’ll look to change that in an important AFC West matchup in Kansas City.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos visit Arrowhead Stadium in Week 13 to face off against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. It's the second time these AFC West rivals have met this season, with the Broncos earning a 24-17 win in their Week 2 matchup. With the playoffs inching closer, this game takes on more relevancy to both teams' hopes of winning the division.

Denver currently holds the top spot in the AFC West with an 8-3 record, but is only 2-2 over the last four weeks. The Broncos are no strangers to the primetime spotlight, having played three night games so far this season and winning each time. However, all three of those games were in the friendly confines of Mile High. On the road, they're more vulnerable. Denver's only wins away from home are against the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders, two teams with a combined record of 3-19.

The Chiefs are nearly perfect at home this season, with their only blemish a Week 1 loss to the Tennessee Titans. As inexplicable as that defeat seems now, Kansas City is coming off an even flukier loss last week to the previously winless Raiders. Before that, the Chiefs were winners of five straight and are still just a game behind the Broncos in the division race. A win Sunday night would bring them even.

Overall, though, the experts think Peyton Manning and the Broncos will make it a clean sweep over the Chiefs this year. The crew at CBS Sports are all siding with Denver on the road, while just three of the 13 experts at ESPN are picking the home team.

The SB Nation panel mostly agrees, with only Matt Ufford and the OddsShark computer expecting Kansas City to pull out the win.
