The San Diego Chargers will visit the Baltimore Ravens in Week 13 with both teams in the middle of heated division races. Both also happen to be trailing in their respective divisions and could wind up needing a wild card berth to make it into the playoffs. Every game is crucial for these two teams for the rest of the season.

The San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens will try and help themselves in the playoff race with a win in Week 13.
The Chargers are 7-4 and find themselves tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for second place in the AFC West, trailing the 8-3 Denver Broncos. But the Chiefs and Broncos will face off on Sunday, so the Chargers could potentially enter into a tie for the division lead with a win over Baltimore. Given that they have the toughest schedule remaining of those three teams, this game against the Ravens is one the Chargers cannot afford to lose.
Baltimore is also 7-4 on the season and is in a three-way tie for second place in the AFC North, the most competitive division in football this year. The Ravens are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, while the Cincinnati Bengals are just a hair ahead of them at 7-3-1. Both the Bengals and Steelers have games against losing teams on Sunday, while the Browns take on the 6-5 Buffalo Bills. So this is also a huge matchup for the Ravens, who are trying to keep pace in the division.
Both teams have won their last two games, though all four of those games have been against losing teams. The Ravens have the league’s No. 6 rushing attack with 132.4 rushing yards per game, and the No. 6 rush defense at 88.3 rushing yards allowed per game. The Chargers don’t quite rank as highly in most categories. They’re about average when it comes to pass offense and rush defense, though they do stop the pass particularly well.
Essentially, this is an even matchup between two very similar teams in similar situations with similar records. Philip Rivers and the Chargers will certainly be expected to make short work of Baltimore’s No. 29 pass defense, which allows 264.6 yards per game through the air, so this game will probably come down to whether the Ravens can run against San Diego’s No. 15 rush defense.

The Ravens, the home team, opened up as 4.5-point favorites for the matchup. The line widened significantly throughout the week, however, with the Ravens favored by as much as 7 points on some books, according to OddsShark.
