The Patriots and Packers are playing as well as anyone in the league and each is a strong contender to reach the Super Bowl. A lot of pieces would need to fall into place and it's still very premature to look ahead to the Super Bowl, but the Packers and Patriots appear to be two of a handful of legitimate contenders to play in the big game. The quarterbacks headline both teams and for good measure. Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay lead the NFL in yards per attempt, at a whopping 8.5 yards per pass. Tom Brady hasn't put up prolific passing numbers this season, but he's proven capable of big days. The Pats have rotated running backs, getting solid production from a handful of players.
Although the quarterbacks and offenses receive the majority of the attention, the defenses for both sides are also playing well. Neither Green Bay nor New England has an elite defense. They do, however, have adequate defensive units that are playing well of late. The Patriots check in at No. 11 in yards per play allowed this season, while Green Bay is No. 13, according to TeamRankings.com. Both sides have been playing better of late. New England has the seventh-best defense in yards per play in the last three games, while Green Bay checks in at No. 9 during that span.
The Packers need a win on Sunday to remain atop the NFC North and one-game ahead of Detroit. New England has more breathing room in its division race, but is playing for seeding in the AFC. With so much at stake on both sides. the matchup at Lambeau Field figures to the game of the day.
